About The Position

This position is for a Mental Health Worker in the Emergency Department Behavioral Health Pods at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, IL. The role involves assisting licensed nursing staff in providing and documenting patient care, supporting unit functions, and maintaining a safe environment. The Mental Health Worker functions as part of the interdisciplinary care team and communicates pertinent patient information to the supervising RN. Responsibilities include performing clerical duties and providing basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, adhering to Nursing Structure Standards, Hospital/Nursing Policy, and state regulatory and accrediting requirements. For the outpatient setting, the role involves carrying out activities of daily living programs and individual treatment plans for psychiatric patients under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, RN, and Program Director.

Requirements

  • Current and valid license as a Certified Nursing Assistant issued by the State, if a CNA.
  • If not a CNA, a minimum of one year experience working as a Mental Health Worker in a hospital setting preferred.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  • One (1) year prior mental health experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed nursing staff in providing and documenting patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Support unit functions and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Function as an integral part of the interdisciplinary care team and communicate pertinent patient information to the supervising RN.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Provide basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Perform responsibilities within the guidelines of the Nursing Structure Standards, Hospital/Nursing Policy, and state regulatory and accrediting requirements.
  • Carry out activities of daily living program and individual treatment plans for psychiatric patients (in outpatient setting).
