About The Position

The Mental Health Worker, as a member of the Child & Family Clinic multidisciplinary team, possesses the clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, coordinate, and provide treatment and support services to Department clients and their families.

Requirements

• Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work or equivalent discipline from an accredited university, with child and adolescent mental health training and expertise.
• Registration in good standing with the appropriate College or professional association, to comply with licensing according to hospital professional practice requirements.
• Minimum of three (3) years recent and relevant experience in child & youth mental health services, with specific experience working with children, adolescents and families.
• Demonstrated expertise in current mental health assessment and treatment methods with children, adolescents and their families.
• Relevant experience in a mental health setting – hospital experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to a family-centred / systemic treatment orientation.
• Experience and belief in the value of working in and committing to a fully integrated multidisciplinary team model.
• Ability to work flexibly in a multidisciplinary team model.
• Regular attendance is a requirement of the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment and make decisions regarding treatment plans for clients and families referred to the Child & Family Clinic, Urgent Clinic and CAP inpatient unit requiring transition plans of care back to the community.
• Provide treatment using modalities which may include group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, etc.
• Assume a clinical caseload.
• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, formulations, and intervention plans on those clients referred.
• Document relevant information in the Health Record of each client receiving services, which may include assessments and formulation, progress notes, notes on interviews and meetings (internal and external to hospital), closing summaries, as well as letters to physicians and other professionals.
• Provide reports to referring physicians, other members of the health care team and community agencies, as appropriate.
• Implement treatment plan, which may require conjoint work with another clinic, hospital and/or community professionals.
• Respond to Code White emergency situations, as per policy.
• Maintain strict client confidentiality.
• Promote positive, cooperative relations with medical, paramedical, school communities and mental health agencies.
• Consultation and liaison with outside agencies, such as schools, legal services, and other mental health professionals regarding clinical cases and the planning of coordinated services to clients to ensure transition to and from acute care services.
• Participate actively in the multidisciplinary approach practiced in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Department.
• Attend weekly appropriate clinical meetings, business meetings, staff development.
• Complete monthly statistics for the Program within three working days of the end of the month.
• Prepare for and attend clinical supervision within the guidelines of the program.
• Membership on psychiatric or hospital committees, as delegated by the Child & Adolescent Mental Health manager.
• Participate in discussion regarding policies, long-term goals and future development of the department, including committee membership as delegated by the department manager.
• Develop and maintain awareness of current legislation as it relates to clinical practice in Ontario and to the pertinent population serviced by the Child & Family Clinic.
• Understand the organization, function, policies, regulations and procedures of the hospital as they relate to the Child & Family Clinic.
• Abide by the provisions of the appropriate child welfare legislation of a mental health professional, as well as respond to the hospital’s and Clinic’s mandate and client’s needs.
• Attend conferences or workshops relevant to working with clients and families with severe mental health concerns.
• Keep informed about current developments in the field.
• Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested.
