About The Position

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Therapy Aide (MHTA) to support the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Syracuse, NY. This role is ideal for professionals passionate about helping youth navigate mental health challenges in an inpatient setting. The MHTA plays a vital role in maintaining patient safety, supporting therapeutic activities, and assisting the clinical care team. This position follows a structured bi-weekly schedule to ensure continuity of care: Week A: 4 × 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) Week B: 4 × 8-hour night shifts (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM) Weekends: Every other weekend required Holidays: Some holiday coverage required Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, the MHTA will provide both direct and indirect patient care

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required ( 2+ years preferred )
  • Psychiatric experience required
  • Current CPR Certification required
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and observational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision after orientation

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric/Adolescent experience strongly preferred
  • Prior inpatient or acute care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Monitoring: Record vital signs, monitor intake/output (I&O), and collect specimens as needed
  • Patient Safety & Advocacy: Conduct regular safety checks, maintain a secure therapeutic environment, and assist during behavioral or crisis situations
  • Therapeutic Engagement: Build rapport with pediatric and adolescent patients, support group and individual activities, and apply age-appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist patients with hygiene, grooming, and other daily care needs
  • Unit Support: Assist with admissions, patient orientation, documentation, and support during physical examinations
  • Documentation & Communication: Accurately document patient observations and responses in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and promptly report critical information to nursing staff
