This role provides comprehensive mental health and/or dual diagnosis services for individuals who have a diagnosable mental illness. The therapist functions as the primary clinician and is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, therapy/counseling, and education services for patients and families. The position involves systematically and continually assessing the patient's mental condition in collaboration with the patient and family.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from a Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) accredited program with major course work in mental health counseling required or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) upon hire required.
  • Or if licensure has not been obtained upon employment, an active limited permit or submitted application to the NYS Department of Education. upon hire required and NYS licensure as a mental health practitioner (e.g., Mental Health Counselor, Creative Arts Therapist) within 36 months required.
  • Excellent organization, communication skills and attention to details.
  • Demonstrates ability to function independently and effectively, with minimal direction within a diverse workplace.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience working in the field of substance abuse or mentally ill preferred.
  • Experience in University/Hospital settings helpful.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for patients and their families when indicated.
  • Provides direct clinical services to assigned patients, including evaluation, individual, family and/or group therapy and crisis intervention.
  • Conducts evidence informed treatment with patients.
  • Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients with clearly defined therapeutic goals.
  • Conducts evidence-informed treatment with patients and families.
  • Assesses progress and successful completion of goals and plans, termination of services and care management services accordingly.
  • Documents treatment in patients’ electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations.
  • Meets minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director.
  • Provides milieu management in reception areas at Strong Recovery supporting patients to engage with substance use treatment and mental health care, connection patients to Addiction and Mental Health services and other support services.
  • Establishes and regularly maintains cooperative working relationships with community and health care agencies and professional and administrative staff of the Medical Center and University.
  • Collaborates with referral sources and other professionals, both internal and external, throughout patient care activities.
  • Mobilizes family and natural support networks when clinically indicated.
  • Maintains professional standard by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Attends weekly supervision/clinical meetings.
  • Participates in departmental and programmatic diversity presentations.
  • Available to needs for CCBHC program recipients on an urgent basis, including walk-ins.
  • Committed to understanding and meeting the unique needs of external and internal customers.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of related policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with support staff regarding patient scheduling, fees, and insurance issues.
  • Promote hope and recovery by using strengths based, culturally appropriate, and person-centered practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
