About The Position

The Behavioral Health department at NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is seeking Mental Health Therapists to join their team. These positions will provide clinical mental health services for all ages, with one position having a specific focus on children and adolescents. Roles will conduct initial clinical interviews with children, adolescents, adults, and their families to determine level of functioning and diagnose mental and/or emotional disorders. Responsibilities include completing diagnostic assessment reports for presenting problems, psychosocial and medication histories, and psychiatric diagnoses, creating treatment plans, and providing psychotherapy. There is an opportunity to expand competency to children five years of age and younger as part of the Early Childhood Program, with training provided. NorthPoint is located in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) with a score of 21, making healthcare providers eligible for scholarship and loan repayment programs. Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field and two or more years of post-master's degree experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Professional as defined by the Minnesota Mental Health Act.
  • Current licensure as one or more of the following: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Minnesota Board of Social Work, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, Licensed Psychologist (LP) by the Minnesota Board of Psychology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using the Epic electronic health records system.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience being trauma-informed and understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments.
  • Experience working in a school system, hospital, clinic, or in the community.
  • Knowledge of clinical interview techniques to be used with children and families.
  • Knowledge of resources available through Hennepin County and the community.
  • Skill in working with patients of varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including patients who may require the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to establish effective therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.
  • Ability to gather and interpret pertinent psychosocial and psychological data in cases characterized by complex problems and the ability to use this data to inform diagnostic considerations and develop effective therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other professionals, and the public.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in another language(s) in addition to English.
  • Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.

Responsibilities

  • Complete diagnostic assessments for all ages: children, adolescents, adults, and their families.
  • Provide direct clinical services including clinical interviews, therapies, and crisis/risk assessments.
  • Provide general case management; prepare reports, case records, correspond as necessary clinically, and bill for services.
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary staff case consultations with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health providers.
  • Work as a member of a multidisciplinary, integrated care team consisting of medical, dental, behavioral health, and other ancillary care providers, providing both internal and external referrals for patients.
