About The Position

Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Center (DCBHC) is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join their team. This role is crucial in impacting the lives of children and youth by helping them develop independent living and social skills. The MHT will work in a clinically based environment, gaining experience with children in psychiatric and mental health services. DCBHC provides programs and services for children and adolescents experiencing acute psychiatric crises in a safe and compassionate inpatient environment. Located in Malvern, PA, the MHT will establish and maintain therapeutic rapport with adolescents, assisting, supporting, and instructing them in self-help, coping skills, and positive behavioral interventions as outlined in their clinical treatment plan. The position is part of Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS), which serves children, adolescents, and young adults with various diagnoses including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges. Services include psychiatric residential treatment, acute inpatient psychiatric hospital care, assessment services, community-based mental health services, and educational services for ages 6-21.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and two years of direct care experience OR a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with at least twelve credit hours in a human services discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, social work, education, pastoral counseling, political science, health, recreation, criminal justice, counseling).
  • Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.
  • Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more.
  • Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision.
  • Occasional use of computers and office equipment.
  • Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of the individuals being worked with.
  • Engage in daily activities such as Recreational and Social Activities that enhance social skill development.
  • Address and redirect inappropriate behavior of individuals.
  • Implement treatment plan goals and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic rapport with adolescents.
  • Assist, support, and instruct individuals in self-help, coping skills, and positive behavioral interventions.
