About The Position

Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Center (DCBHC) is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to work in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting in Malvern, PA. This role involves establishing and maintaining therapeutic rapport with adolescents, assisting, supporting, and instructing them in self-help, coping skills, and positive behavioral interventions as outlined in their clinical treatment plans. The MHT will ensure the safety of individuals, engage them in daily activities to enhance social skill development, and address and redirect inappropriate behavior. This position offers opportunities for learning and growth in behavioral health and human services, with specialized training in areas like PBIS, ABA, TIC, Safe and Positive Approaches, DBT, and IEP. It also provides opportunities to teach youth valuable life skills and serve as a positive role model. The center serves children and adolescents aged 6-21 with diagnoses including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric challenges, often associated with trauma.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and two year’s direct care experience or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with at least twelve credit hours in a human services discipline to include but not limited to psychology, sociology, social work, education, pastoral counseling, political science, heath, recreation, criminal justice, counseling.
  • Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more.
  • Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision.
  • Occasional use of computers and office equipment.
  • Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes.
  • Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.
