Requirements

  • High School diploma is required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Drug Test screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Florida Behavioral Health Technician Certification preferred.
  • CPI Certification.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Willing to obtain CPI Certification within 90 days.
  • 1 year of experience working in a psychiatric unit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the RN in patient care and gathering information for the patient treatment and care plan.
  • Ensure patient and family safety, offering support and comfort.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment.
  • Perform patient care observations and duties as directed by the RN and hospital policies.
  • Manage patient activities and provide patient education.
  • Assist with maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
  • Supervise patient activities and respond/intervene per protocol.
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and coping strategies.
  • Identify behaviors requiring seclusion, restraint, or other clinical intervention and escalate to the primary nurse or nurse leader.
  • Escort and monitor patients during fresh air breaks.
  • Perform general patient care tasks including vital signs, feeding, mobility, personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, bed making/linen changes, and assisting with supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in preparing patient treatment areas between patient use.
  • Perform ongoing observations of patients and document their status in the electronic observation record.
  • Report unusual findings to the primary nurse or nurse leader.
  • Maintain accurate precautionary monitoring (suicidal, violence, and elopement) every 15 minutes, reporting and recording patient's physical and emotional whereabouts, activity, and behavior.
  • Monitor patients in recreational therapies, psychotherapy, and education programs, documenting significant behaviors.
  • Engage patients in daily activities, including group facilitation.
  • Maintain the storage closet and ensure therapeutic activity materials are available.
  • Follow up on patient care responsibilities and assignments from previous shifts and report any incomplete assignments.
  • Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Perform all other related job duties as assigned.
