As a Mental Health Technician, you will provide direct patient care in a therapeutic environment, ensuring safety and supporting the emotional and social needs of patients. You will play a vital role in helping patients develop coping skills and achieve personal growth, consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of CHI St. Alexius.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with at least 1 year of experience as a Psych Tech or Equivalent.
- Must be listed on the Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Department of Health at the time of hire or within 90 days of employment.
- Obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Obtain Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting – APS- IA & NE within six (6) months of employment.
- Obtain First Aid – PRTF only within six (6) months of employment.
- BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institude: CPR, PRO, must say “Professional Level with AED”, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care, assisting patients with daily needs, basic nursing tasks (e.g., vital signs), and promoting a safe, supportive environment.
- Guide patients in developing individuality, self-expression, and positive behavioral patterns through feedback and reinforcement.
- Respond to emergencies, maintain a secure environment, and utilize CPI techniques to de-escalate situations and minimize restraints.
- Document patient observations and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
- Facilitate supportive activities and assist nurses with delegated tasks within your scope.
