About The Position

The Mental Health Technician supports delivery of recovery-model care under the direction of a registered nurse. The role provides direct patient care by supervising, interacting with, assisting, and supporting psychiatric patients. The technician helps maintain therapeutic relationships and a positive therapeutic environment, assists with implementing recovery plans, and performs routine and assigned tasks in support of nursing staff and patient care.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in psychiatric care or a healthcare-related position is preferred.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling/Psychology, or Psychiatric-Mental Health preferred.
One year of experience in psychiatric care or a healthcare-related position preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform responsibilities and duties required by the mental health unit to address each patient’s unique needs.
Conduct safety rounds, observe patients’ appearance and behaviors, document patient status, and report abnormal findings to the registered nurse.
Identify patient needs and participate as part of the treatment team in developing and implementing individualized plans of care.
Use Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques to recognize and de-escalate escalating behavior and respond to events to maintain patient and unit safety.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of care provided for integration by the healthcare team and to support quality care.
Analyze problems effectively, identify appropriate courses of action and solutions, and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
Provide person-centered care by offering choices, engaging patients in treatment, and fostering optimism and hope.
Model appropriate behavior management and patient de-escalation for others.
Manage the therapeutic milieu and redirect behaviors as needed.
Maintain current knowledge and certification.
