Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent preferred; or Certified Nursing or NAR required; Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, psychology, human services, or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
  • One year of related experience, with a knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.
  • Successful completion of CPR certification and crisis intervention training within 10 days of employment, prior to assisting with restraining procedures.
  • May be required to work flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, psychology, human services, or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record vital signs
  • Exercise judgment in patient interactions and report changes to the RN
  • Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team and provide information for development and revision
  • Employ crisis-intervention techniques, conduct MHT-led groups, and use facility-approved CPI techniques
  • Assist patients through discharge, guide them in adjusting to life changes, and help with personal hygiene
  • Assist with hospital codes
  • Comply with policies for a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, practicing universal precautions and responding to patient care priorities.
