Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108-bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment facility for the psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18 years. The center has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) is an active participant in the implementation of physical care, therapeutic activities, and the academic program. They assist in planning and implementing treatment programs for residents, and implement functional behavioral assessment/behavior intervention plans as well as individualized academic or behavioral goals, accommodations, and services as defined by Individualized Instructional Plans (IIPs), Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and 504 Plans. The MHT is responsible as a member of the program team, observes and reports physical and behavioral symptoms under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and receives direction from Teachers in the school setting.
