The Mental Health Technician will provide direct and indirect patient care to child and adolescent patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Program Therapist. This role involves providing continuous patient care, direct observation/supervision, interaction, and positive role modeling to child and adolescent patients to promote safety and therapeutic treatment. The technician will work with a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate milieu activities, assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL), and respond to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills. They must recognize potential behavioral escalations and utilize effective de-escalation skills, reacting calmly and therapeutically in crisis situations. The role requires knowledge of potential risks and safety precautions in mental health patient care, including conducting observation checks per policy. The technician will report patient status, issues, concerns, and behavioral changes to the RN, maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA, and serve as a role model providing structure and guidance. This position requires organizational ability, sound judgment, initiative, and positive interaction with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team. The technician must attend staff meetings, trainings, and complete all mandatory education. They will follow policies and procedures related to seclusion and/or restraint, comply with the assigned schedule and attendance policy, and perform other duties as assigned.
