About The Position

Havenwyck Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited and licensed psychiatric hospital specializing in providing comprehensive, compassionate behavioral health services to children, adolescents and adults. The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes: assisting with patient admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de-escalate the patient appropriately. Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illusions, delusions and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse. Will also assist patients with activities of daily living and encourage independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis while providing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a minimum of three years of current experience as a MHT/PCS in a behavioral health hospital
  • Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed preferred
  • Individuals employed by any UHS facility within the previous six (6) months are not eligible to apply for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Follows instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in Hospital policies and procedures
  • Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse
