About The Position

Trinity Health Livonia is seeking a Mental Health Tech to join their Behavioral Medicine Department. This role involves delivering patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, conducting didactic groups focused on mental illness treatment, and interacting with individuals, families, and groups. The Mental Health Tech will also assist the multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and aftercare, write progress notes, participate in master treatment plans, help clients establish goals, and educate clients on mental health aspects to facilitate recovery.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• BCLS and CPI Required.
• Experience running didactic groups with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or 60 hours of education in human services field preferred (nursing, psychology, social work).
• Previous experience working as a mental health tech preferred.
• Certified Addictions Counselor 1 (CAC-1) and/or Social work Tech preferred.
• Experience in Mental Health/Substance Abuse services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes patient status while performing activities of daily living.
• Updates RN regarding observations and concerns in a timely manner.
• Documents accurately in data collection.
• Follows plan of care as outlined and directed by RN.
• Prioritizes patient care activities based on patient needs/schedule.
• Assists in admission/discharge/transfer process (e.g., check patient belongings, body checks).
• Performs assigned tasks by RN (e.g., run group, sharps, linen, vital signs).
• Instructs patient and documents education, both individually and via didactic groups.
• Monitors unit and patients to ensure a safe environment and patient status (e.g., monitor day room, monitor visiting hours, monitor day room during meal time).
• Monitors nutritional intake and output of patients.
• Collects specimens as ordered.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living or performs for patients when unable.
• Provides patient care, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned units.
• Maintains confidentiality and the privacy of patient/family.
• Develops and maintains effective communication with all members of the health care team.
• Works under the supervision of the RN and follows verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Participates in unit-based Quality Improvement Programs.
• Maintains a professional work environment, free of social discussions, responding to the needs of the customer, whether patient/family or co-workers.
• Provides back up for the Unit Clerk as needed.
• Records in medical chart ongoing progress notes in B.A.R. format for each client contact.
• Participates in didactic presentations in a competent and professional manner.
