About The Position

Works under supervision. This role involves collecting patient data, performing basic hygiene care, assisting in facilitating treatment milieu, participating in codes to protect patients, monitoring patient sharps and valuables, conducting groups, responding to patient requests, documenting patient information, and safely transferring and transporting patients. The Mental Health Tech is responsible for recognizing and reporting values outside normal parameters, changes in patient condition or behavior, and ensuring patient care is delivered safely, with high quality, and effectively.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required Upon Hire
  • (CPI) CRISIS PREVENTION INSTITUT CER within 180 Days

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of acute care inpatient hospital experience
  • Certified Nurses Aide certification with training from an accredited training program
  • Training from an accredited Mental Health Technician program
  • Completed first semester of Nursing Clinicals from an accredited program

Responsibilities

  • Collects data including intake and output, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure.
  • Performs skin assessments and recognizes and immediately reports values outside normal parameters to the nurse.
  • Demonstrates awareness of age-specific considerations in gathering assessments.
  • Performs sterile procedures in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assists in facilitating treatment milieu.
  • Participates in codes to protect the patient from harming self or others.
  • Reports any changes in a patient's condition or behavior immediately to the nurse.
  • Seeks assistance and guidance as needed to ensure safe, high-quality, and effective patient care.
  • Monitors patient sharps and valuables and labels/handles appropriately.
  • Conducts walking/exercise and community groups.
  • Responds to patient requests for assistance in a respectful, positive, and timely manner.
  • Performs basic hygiene care in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Checks skin carefully during the bath and reports anything other than normal immediately to the nurse.
  • Makes frequent and ongoing patient rounds to comfort, position, and provide toileting and hygiene care.
  • Documents patient information accurately and in the appropriate place in a timely manner.
  • Transfers and transports patients safely and in accordance with policies and procedures, with concern for age-specific considerations.
  • Welcomes new patient/patient's family, knocks before entering, smiles, and introduces self.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
