About The Position

This position provides care and safety for patients in a supportive team environment at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the largest hospital in Missouri and a top-ranked hospital by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital is certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Psychiatry department features three inpatient Psychiatric units and an Outpatient ECT, staffed by professional healthcare providers. The department focuses on safe, patient-centered Psychiatric care, utilizing group activity and music therapies, one-to-one care, and an interdisciplinary team within state-of-the-art patient care units. There are a total of 46 inpatient beds across Intensive, Medicine, and Geriatric Psych units, offering diverse opportunities to work with acutely ill patients, those requiring combined medical and psychiatric care, and the elderly population. Safety is a high priority for both patients and staff. The Mental Health Tech is responsible for performing necessary services related to the personal needs, comfort, and treatment of psychiatric patients, under the direction of a registered nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience <2 years

Nice To Haves

  • CNA, MHT, Nurse Assistant, or PCT experience
  • Associate's Degree
  • Experience 2-5 years

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with daily hygiene including personal care direction, assists with physical activity, meets patients’ nutritional needs, and documents activities as required.
  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of a nurse.
  • Assists nurses with admissions and discharges, and assists nurses and doctors with treatments, procedures and examinations.
  • Performs general clerical tasks.
  • Collects and records specimens, including phlebotomy.
