About The Position

Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital has Per Diem Mental Health Tech positions available. The Mental Health Technician provides care and close supervision of facility patients, documents behavior, and develops positive relationships with patients in order to implement treatment plans and provide crisis intervention as necessary. Support the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu while providing for the direct care, welfare, safety and security of patients with emotional and/or psychological disorders in collaboration with the treatment team, (i.e.; Physicians, Teachers, Recreational, Therapists, Dietitian Nurses, Lead Clinical Staff and Mental Health Technicians), in compliance with JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals and other performance improvement indicators an Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. The role of a Mental Health Technician at Lighthouse Behavioral Health Hospital involves escorting patients to various activities, transporting them to medical appointments, maintaining facility safety and security through close observation and monitoring, ensuring patients have individualized crisis plans, acting as a role model in counseling skills, collaborating with the Admission Department for clinical support, and assessing patient needs for clothing, linens, and personal hygiene supplies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 1 year(s) related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPI Certified
  • Must be able to complete (5) day Hospital Orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to work, mealtime, outdoor/indoor recreation, smoke breaks (if applicable), and education activities and participate in their supervision and instruction as needed.
  • Transport patients to and from medical appointments or other activities as directed.
  • Maintain safety and security of the facility through close observation and monitoring of the patients, maintaining optimal physical proximity, remaining alert at all times, and using analytical forethought to anticipate potentially volatile or unsafe situations and proactively intervene.
  • Ensure that all assigned patients have an individualized crisis plan developed.
  • Act as a role model in using appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
  • Maintain collaboration with Admission Department to provide clinical support for initial screenings.
  • Provide appropriate back up for assessments when there is need.
  • Assess and ensure the needs of the patients are being met in relation to clothing, linens, and personal hygiene supplies; supervise personal hygiene tasks.
