About The Position

CoreCivic is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to provide mental health care to inmates in an institutional setting. The role conducts screenings and assessments, develops and delivers treatment, and coordinates with clinical and multidisciplinary staff to support integrated care and follow-through. The specialist maintains confidential health care records and provides counseling and crisis interventions consistent with job performance requirements.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in social or behavioral science or a closely related field.
• One year of experience primarily providing mental health or counseling services. Additional related work experience involving direct counseling services or training for the same may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Must possess an Ohio LSW, LCSW, or LPC license.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• A valid driver’s license is preferred, unless required by contract or applicable statute.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mental health screenings and assessments using available records and clinical interviews with inmates.
• Coordinate with psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, nurses, social workers, and other clinical staff to share information about patients’ psychological concerns and integrate treatment and follow-through.
• Develop, implement, and modify individual treatment plans based on inmates’ needs and level of functioning.
• Document treatment and evaluation activities in each person’s health care record.
• Consult with multidisciplinary staff, including security, unit staff, and facility management, and make recommendations concerning inmate behavior and mental health issues.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.
• Provide mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation-avoidance interventions for inmates in crisis.
• Administer mental status examinations or other psychological tests and instruments as needed to evaluate treatment, adjustment, and placement needs.
