About The Position
CoreCivic is seeking a Mental Health Specialist to provide mental health services in an institutional setting. The position assists with the development, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of mental health treatment plans and services for inmates. The role works as part of a mental health team and coordinates with clinical and multidisciplinary staff to support integrated treatment and patient care.
Requirements
- A degree in social or behavioral science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience in which the primary responsibility was providing mental health or counseling services.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.

Responsibilities
- Conduct mental health screenings and assessments using available records and clinical interviews with inmates.
- Confer with clinical staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, nurses, and social workers, to exchange information about patients' psychological problems and support integrated treatment and follow-through.
- Develop, implement, and modify individual treatment plans based on inmates' needs and level of functioning.
- Document treatment and evaluation activities in the health care record for each person seen.
- Consult with multidisciplinary staff, including security staff, unit staff, and facility management, and make appropriate recommendations regarding behavior and mental health issues affecting inmates.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.
- Apply knowledge of psychological counseling theory and techniques in treatments and activities for individuals on the caseload.
- Provide mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation-avoidance interventions for inmates in crisis.
- Administer mental status exams or other psychological tests and instruments as needed to evaluate treatment, adjustment, and placement needs.
