As a Mental Health Specialist on this team, you’ll play a key clinical role at our Children’s Rehab Hospital Center for Attention and Learning, helping shape the lives of young patients. You’ll work closely with children diagnosed with ADHD, supporting both them and their families through meaningful, transformative care focused on long-term wellness and emotional resilience. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a humanities field, such as Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or Child Development
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
  • Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention (NAPPI) Certification upon or within the new hire period
  • General knowledge of CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care and related interventions
  • Knowledge of lifespan development, abnormal psychology, therapeutic processes, growth and development, behavioral management and therapeutic relationships

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the direction of an RN.
  • Facilitate structured programming based on milieu needs of pediatric patients.
  • Assist in milieu management.
  • Plan and organize group programming, including but not limited gross motor, psycho-educational and recreational groups focused on patients’ individual and collective needs under the supervision of the Therapeutic Program Coordinator.
  • Provide a caring, warm environment for patients through setting clear boundaries and interacting in a supportive and encouraging manner to help build self-esteem, age-appropriate interpersonal skills, positive thinking, problem solving, social cues and language, coping skills, and respect for others and self.
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team by contributing clinical information and observations about patients.
  • Communicate in a non-judgmental manner, use effective listening techniques, demonstrate abilities to acknowledge, reflect back to the speaker, paraphrase, and use open-ended questions.
  • Document and describe patient behavior, interventions and responses to interventions in Epic.
  • Assist with drop-off and pick-up of group participants
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed
  • Assist with group set up and group deconstruction
