About The Position

This role is for a Mental Health Specialist II working an overnight shift at the Coastal Star Crisis Stabilization Unit in Irvine, CA. The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a 24/7 facility designed to provide immediate crisis intervention and stabilization for adults and adolescents experiencing a mental health crisis, aiming to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations. Patients may stay up to 23 hours. The unit serves up to 16 adults (ages 18 and up) and 4 adolescents (ages 13 to 17). The CSU helps clients stabilize and provides referrals to other needed services, with transportation provided as needed. The company has been certified as a Great Place to Work for 8 years.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related mental health field.
  • Registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate (AMFT, ACSW, or APCC).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with a driving record that meets company eligibility policies.
  • First Aid certification from an approved provider (such as the American Red Cross) or the ability to obtain it upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervision for BBS hours for AMFT, ACSW, and APCC professionals (where applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients at the start of treatment (reviews as needed).
  • Develop and maintain treatment plans.
  • Conduct family collateral and discharge planning.
  • Discuss goals and objectives of proposed treatment plans and establish a contract with the consumer.
  • Interview consumers to team with mental health professionals in determining the needs of individuals or groups on a walk-in/telephone basis.
  • Respond to potential suicide or other emergency events.
  • Visit clients, individually or as part of a team, in a variety of living situations, to help assess the mental health needs of individuals and families, observe progress, provide counseling, gather data, and report significant changes in the client's condition to designated professional staff.
