About The Position

Mental Health Rehabilitation Professionals provide psychosocial rehabilitation services to individuals with mental health needs via the State of Wisconsin's Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) program. They are responsible for the direct supervision of adults with mental health support needs in various settings such as the home, community, and vocational sites. It is the Mental Health Rehabilitation Professional's responsibility to see to the specific needs of each individual served, provide opportunities, teach, provide options for informed choice, and follow guidelines according to each client's service plan.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Possess a bachelor's degree or higher in education or a human services related field
  • Some experience in providing community supports to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and/or mental health needs
  • The ability to reason and problem solve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess a valid driver license
  • Possess automobile insurance
  • Be willing to perform any reasonable request to meet the needs of the persons served
  • Ability to use computer such as word processor, e-mail, etc. in a time efficient manner
  • Capable of working with adults by communicating verbally (possibly sign language), to instruct, demonstrate, train, and work cooperatively
  • Stand, sit, bend, lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move intermittently
  • Must frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual skill development and enhancement services, including training in communication, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, decision-making, self-regulation, conflict resolution, and other specific needs identified in the client's service plan.
  • Provide training in daily living skills related to personal care, household tasks, financial management, transportation, shopping, parenting, accessing and connecting to community resources and services, and other specific daily living needs identified in the client's service plan.
  • Support the participant in the development of friendships and other relationships.
  • Assist the individual to identify and gain access to formal and informal supports available in the community.
  • Provide medication management services, including supporting the client in taking medications, increasing understanding of medication benefits and treated symptoms, and monitoring symptom changes and medication tolerability.
  • Provide physical health monitoring services, focusing on how mental health and/or substance abuse issues impact the client's ability to monitor and manage physical health and health risks.
  • Provide employment-related skill training services addressing illness or symptom-related problems in finding, securing, and keeping a job.
  • Provide education and information resources about the client's mental health and/or substance abuse issues, skills training, problem-solving, ongoing guidance about managing and coping with mental health and/or substance abuse, and social and emotional support.
  • Empower clients to manage their mental health and/or substance abuse issues, helping them develop their own goals, and teaching them the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed treatment decisions.
  • Utilize crisis prevention, intervention, and resolution techniques.
  • Enhance the ability of the individual to lead a self-determining life by providing support and information necessary to build self-esteem and assertiveness and to make decisions.
  • Respond to the needs, desires, and interests of the individuals by utilizing formal and informal assessment practices.
  • Advocate for individuals facing diverse challenges, including human rights/client rights.
  • Establish a collaborative relationship with the individual using effective communication strategies and skills.
  • Manage documentation requirements efficiently.
  • Be familiar with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • Pursue knowledge and information necessary to perform job duties.
