About The Position

Olympic Health and Recovery Services is seeking a Mental Health Professional to work within the Thurston County Corrections Facility (TCCF). This role provides brief solution-focused therapy, crisis intervention, risk assessments, psychoeducation, case management, and individual and group therapy to incarcerated individuals. The position also serves as a behavioral health specialist, offering consultation to corrections staff and coordinating care between the jail, community, and Western State Hospital. While much of the work is independent, support and guidance are available from management and team members.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or further advanced degree in counseling or one of the social sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Meets WA state qualifications to be a Mental Health Professional.
  • Qualifies as a Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor or be licensed in the state by the WA Department of Health as a Social Worker, Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist or BSN/RN.
  • Two (2) or more years professional experience providing services to individuals with Behavioral Health or Substance Use Disorders.
  • One (1) year experience providing group treatment.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer with applicable software to successfully perform essential job functions of the position including word processing, spread sheet, analysis, information retrieval, and tracking.
  • Must pass a background check investigation.
  • May be subject to additional background screening criteria as determined by county jail requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Dual credentialed Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP or SUDP-T) preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals involved with the criminal justice system preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mental health screenings and assessments to determine if an individual meets appropriate criteria for behavioral health services.
  • Researches, determines and advocates for possible opportunities and/or referrals to appropriate treatment programs within the jail and in the community.
  • Provides individual brief solution-focused therapy, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, case management, individual and group therapy (when available) to individuals in the jail.
  • Collaborates with the jail classification team to determine appropriate housing for incarcerated individuals.
  • Coordinates with corrections staff and other jail-based service providers for warm-handoff and care coordination.
  • Records EHR (Electronic Health Record) recordkeeping items.
  • Performs related work, special projects, or other duties as assigned.
