About The Position

This position is with the Office of Mental Health, specifically the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, serving Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg Counties. The role focuses on providing assessment, counseling, interventions, and treatment to individuals with serious mental health illnesses, developmental disorders, and/or autism spectrum disorders. The position is considered essential and may require reporting to work during emergencies. It may also be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Must meet OMH Credentialing Requirements, including specific graduate coursework in Psychopathology, Psychopathology Diagnostics, Clinical Assessment - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM), and Medical Ethics.
  • Must be able to show evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care (practicum, internship, or post-graduate clinical experience).
  • Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds.
  • Ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend, file, drive from location to location, and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Knowledge of psychopathology and patient management within the behavioral setting.
  • Knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by public and private agencies.
  • Responsible for developing treatment plans with the client, establishing treatment goals and objectives.
  • Working on a daily basis with clients in crisis.
  • Making decisions that may involve the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Must provide a 10-year driving record post-hire.
  • Must be able to use a state vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • Must be able to use clinical judgment while working independently and managing assigned cases while making clinic decisions for clients.
  • Must be able to integrate and coordinate services with those of other disciplines while communicating effectively.
  • Participate in ongoing in-service training and other educational opportunities in order to maintain and/or acquire necessary skills.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Licensure preferred - professional counselor or social worker through South Carolina Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board with valid licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, and adults using developmentally adapted evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver caregiver coaching and family therapy to support skill development at home and in the community.
  • Conduct intake and assessments and treatment planning using IDD/MI/SED appropriate tools and strategies.
  • Utilize trauma-informed, non-coercive crisis de-escalation strategies.
  • Develop Personal Safety Plans while conducting modified suicide risk and crisis assessments that consider communication limitations.
  • Modify therapeutic materials to meet the cognitive, sensory, and communication needs of each clinic, incorporating visual support, social stories, video modeling, and structured teaching strategies into therapy.
  • Ensure patients are seen as per LOC guidelines and address patient barriers to service.
  • Confirm crises are staffed and ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Meet patient care hour and documentation standards.
  • Work closely with families, caregivers, case managers, school personnel, residential staff, ABA providers, and other treatment team members.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and provide input.
  • Coordinate care to ensure consistency across settings.
  • Complete documentation in accordance with QI policies and services/contracts to patients.
  • Oversee billing disallowances and keep them to a minimum.
  • Produce outcome and progress summaries that reflect patient improvement.
  • Responsible for maintaining objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-limited.
  • Write objectives and interventions that address patients' SNAP benefits if needed.
  • Adhere to Center, OMH, State, Federal, and Local compliance policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • Make good faith effort to report violations and will not intentionally violate laws regulating the provision of health care.
  • Adhere to Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain licensure and certifications.
  • Satisfy all training requirements, attend supervisions, and participate in other meetings as required.
