About The Position

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center, 2100 Charlie Hall Blvd, SC 29414. Under limited supervision the Mental Health Professional will provide crisis intervention and case management services to children and adult patients in the Charleston Area with assistance of the City of Charleston Police Department in a ride along capacity. Services can be provided in the clinic, CPD headquarters, or within the community.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
  • Evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care (practicum, internship, or post-graduate).
  • Must have a serviceable personal vehicle and a valid SC driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by BHDD.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior adjustment techniques and mental health.
  • Knowledgeable of methods, principles and practices of clinical and crisis counseling services.
  • Knowledgeable of Federal, State, and local laws or regulations pertaining to social services programs, with the ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement.
  • Ability to engage key stakeholders and community partners.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objective in crisis situations.
  • Able to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex assessment and treatment interventions in community settings alongside law enforcement officers.

  • Provide quality person-centered care as demonstrated by the use of evidenced-based clinical interventions.
  • Demonstrate recognition of importance of collaboration and teamwork with Law Enforcement and the community.
  • Ensure timely response to request for services.
  • Maintain competency in Evidence Based Practices.
  • Retain overall responsibility for meeting QA standards.
  • Attend all trainings classified mandatory by Federal and State regulations and Center policy.
  • Comply with all OMH/CDMHC polices and protocols, applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and Cultural Competence, and CARF policies, procedures and regulations and all Federal and State laws.
