This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Berkeley Community Mental Health Center, 403 Stoney Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. As the Mental Health Professional I, under general supervision, you will provide advanced assessment, crisis management, short- long-term individual and family therapy, and case management services for children and their families who present with psychiatric needs. The main goal of interventions will be to reduce psychiatric symptomatology and increase positive functioning within a variety of ecological systems. Services are delivered primarily in school-based settings.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
  • This position requires the ability to perform child and adolescent (birth to 18 years of age) assessments, develop treatment plans, provide counseling services and manage the treatment of children and adolescents.
  • A high level of attention to detail and task completion as well as dependability.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Knowledge about the impact of mental illness on children, adolescents, and their families.
  • Knowledge about theories and methods of intervention.
  • Knowledge about the etiology and treatment of behavioral and emotional disorders is preferable.
  • Familiarity with relevant systems of care and agency characteristics.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals, families, and other professionals.
  • Ability to provide education/awareness activities in school and community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced assessment, crisis management, and short and long-term individual and family therapy services for children and their families who present with psychiatric needs. Services are delivered in a school-based setting.
  • Provide school consultation, education, and prevention to the school district through the provision of faculty and staff in-service training, consultation to faculty and staff, classroom presentation, Parent-Teacher Organization presentations, and critical incident debriefing and/or adverse incident response.
  • Provide case management services to assigned caseload.
  • Develop and maintains liaisons with personnel from other agencies/resources in order to facilitate treatment of clients.
  • Participate in interagency staffing, including Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Student Intervention Team (SIT) meetings.
  • Collect, organize, and record data and information in each client's medical records according to quality assurance standards, CARF guidelines, and corporate compliance standards.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings with CAF staff to formulate and develop individual services plans for each client/family.
  • Comply with all legal responsibilities while performing these job duties.
  • Provide an array of clinical services to promote recovery, stabilization, and independence based on the client's needs and plan of care.
