About The Position

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Central Office, Spartanburg Area Mental Center, 250 Dewey Ave, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Under limited supervision, provide culturally sensitive screening, triage, and assessment to persons with complex and severe, persistent mental illness. Offer crisis services and referrals to necessary resources as warranted. Employee will be part of the daytime Mobile Crisis Team and provide rapid and mobile crisis intervention services in cooperation with county first responders to individuals who are best reached in their communities in order to efficiently meet needs for immediate safety/de-escalation and referral to appropriate level of follow-up care. Provide services in a culturally sensitive manner.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences, or a related field.
  • Evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care (may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience).
  • Ability to provide assessments, develop safety plans, and provide brief crisis counseling services.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques and legal principles and practices for crisis services.
  • Ability to manage crisis treatment interventions.
  • Must pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
  • Successfully complete the Basic Fundamentals course with a minimum grade of 75.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services, incorporating evidence-based treatment practices for all clinical services provided.
  • Provide screening and triage by telephone or face to face.
  • Assessment and crisis stabilization will be offered to those people meeting service provision requirements.
  • Provide linkage to case management services for potential referrals to SAMHC that are at a pivotal point in having their needs met.
  • Adhere to all QA, Corporate Compliance, Outcome Evaluation, Research, and Continuity of Care Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain documentation of clinical services in accordance with local, state, and federal Corporate Compliance laws.
  • Serve on a crisis stabilization team that evaluates client needs and develops treatment plans that provide appropriate intervention to de-escalate the crisis situation.
  • Attend and participates in required/mandated trainings, supervisory sessions, departmental general staffings, interagency staffings, treatment team meetings, and other scheduled meetings as required by the Mental Health Center.
