About The Position

Gateway Health Services is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Mental Health Practitioner to join our Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) team. The Mental Health Practitioner works directly with adults experiencing serious mental illness and provides rehabilitative mental health services in a structured residential setting. Under the treatment supervision of a Mental Health Professional, the MHP assists clients with symptom management, independent living skills, treatment goals, community integration, crisis prevention, and preparation for successful transition back into the community. We are looking for someone who is reliable, comfortable working with individuals with complex mental health needs, and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet Mental Health/Behavioral Health Practitioner qualifications under Minnesota Statutes §245I.04, Subdivision 4.
  • Candidates must qualify through at least one of the following pathways: Relevant Coursework (Completion of at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields, plus at least one qualifying criterion such as 2,000 hours of qualifying experience, completion of a qualifying practicum/internship, or current participation in a qualifying practicum/internship), Work Experience (At least 4,000 hours of qualifying experience or at least 2,000 hours of qualifying experience with required weekly treatment supervision), or Graduate Education (A master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or a related field).
  • Must be able to pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services background study.
  • Must be able to complete all required DHS and IRTS training.
  • Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Must be dependable and able to work the posted schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with adults with serious and persistent mental illness is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rehabilitative mental health services consistent with each client's individualized treatment plan.
  • Teach, model, and assist clients with mental health symptom management and coping skills.
  • Provide client education related to mental health, wellness, recovery, medications, and community living.
  • Facilitate individual and group rehabilitative services and therapeutic programming.
  • Support clients in developing independent living, interpersonal, communication, and community integration skills.
  • Observe and respond appropriately to changes in clients' mental health symptoms, behaviors, functioning, or safety.
  • Assist with crisis prevention, de-escalation, and implementation of individualized crisis and safety plans.
  • Participate in treatment planning, functional assessments, level-of-care assessments, and other clinical documentation within the MHP scope of practice.
  • Complete timely, accurate, and professional documentation of services and client progress.
  • Communicate significant changes, incidents, safety concerns, or clinical concerns to appropriate team members.
  • Collaborate with Mental Health Professionals, nursing staff, case managers, psychiatry, and other members of the treatment team.
  • Support clients in maintaining a safe, respectful, structured, and recovery-focused residential environment.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the Mental Health Practitioner role and IRTS program requirements.
