Mental Health Practitioner, Employment Specialist
About The Position
Harborview Medical Center’s Psychiatry Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner, Employment Specialist. This role is part of Harborview’s Mental Health and Addictions Services (HMHAS), which serves a diverse population with clear and persistent mental illness. The program aims to promote community stability by securing housing, benefits, and culturally relevant treatment, while assisting clients in developing meaningful life roles. The Employment Specialist/Mental Health Practitioner will work with a wide variety of clients, being sensitive to their culture, religion, language, age, gender, and sexual orientation. The primary focus will be on assisting clients in choosing, obtaining, and maintaining employment, working collaboratively with the treatment team to mitigate the effects of mental illness symptoms. This includes developing community-based jobs and providing all necessary preparation and supportive services.
Requirements
- A Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years' of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.
- Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a caseload, size to be determined by team
- Provides employment and advocacy services
- Assists clients in identifying employment strengths and ways of overcoming barriers
- Works with potential employers, current employers and co-workers of clients
- Works with clients’ families and social networks
- Works with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and other allied agencies
- Assesses employment challenges and determines interventions
- Consults with case managers and medical staff regarding effects of vocational activities and treatment
- Leads or co-leads groups
- Maintains clinical and billing records
- Charts client contact in the medical record
- Develops referral information for DVR, negotiate plans and produce timely reports
