Your Impact: What This Role Is All About As a Mental Health Flight Registered Nurse, you become part of a specialized highly trained multi-disciplinary flight crew. You are the calm in the storm. You assess, stabilize, and support mental health patients during transport by air or ground. You ensure safety, uphold dignity, and deliver meaningful care throughout every stage of the journey. No two calls are ever alike and that’s where your clinical expertise and emotional intelligence shine.

Requirements

  • Current, active registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for healthcare including AED.
  • Experience providing care in a hospital-based acute mental health environment or community mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with medical directives and/or standing orders with minimal supervision.
  • Up-to-date immunizations and a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability to obtain Aeromedical Certification within 210 days of hire (training supported by Ornge)

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience in Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit settings.
  • Experience providing care in remote or Indigenous communities.
  • Previous experience in a transport environment (air ambulance or similar), nationally or internationally.
  • Specialized training in mental health nursing, emergency nursing, or critical care.
  • Designations such as CCRN or other relevant specialty certifications.
  • Air Medical Transport training/certification (e.g., CAMATA).
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent de-escalation certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care to mental health patients including stabilization, preparation for transport and care during transport through to transfer of care at a receiving facility.
  • Maintain necessary clinical equipment, equipment bags and biomedical equipment in a state of readiness for response.
  • Follow all routine and enhanced practices for infection prevention and control including post-call cleaning and disinfection of aircraft and equipment as required; and
  • Complete paper-based and/or electronic documentation of patient care in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario and/or Ministry of Health.
