The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Chicago students under the supervision of a collaborating physician. This role involves consulting with the multidisciplinary Mental Health Services (MHS) and Student Wellness (SW) staff to identify and manage mental health problems, in accordance with approved privileges. The PMHNP will conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, prescribe medications, order and interpret lab studies, and provide follow-up care, adhering to state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA. The position requires maintaining accurate documentation, participating in a workday call rotation, and providing consultation to MHS staff and trainees. Additionally, the role involves attending multidisciplinary case conferences and staff meetings, providing campus-based services and consultation which may include evenings or weekends, and participating in MHS peer review and quality improvement activities. The PMHNP will also serve on assigned MHS committees and actively pursue professional development, demonstrating a solid understanding of drug regimens, potential side effects, and interactions. Analysis of test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment is also a key function, along with performing other related work as needed.
