About The Position

The Mental Health Monitoring Technician is responsible for monitoring, documenting, and notifying the appropriate persons of any suspicious, dangerous, unusual behaviors, and situations. The Mental Health Monitoring Technician will also be responsible for calling emergency codes when the switchboard staff is unavailable and directly monitoring patients on units as needed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
  • Two (2) years of social services experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Ability to understand, remember and implement procedures to report abuse, concerns, safety risks

Responsibilities

  • Follows processes for placing patients on video monitoring per doctor’s orders
  • Observes monitors continuously for behaviors indicated based on ordering MD’s precautions when monitoring behaviors remotely (versus in person)
  • Reports behaviors to nurse on unit for immediate interventions
  • Initiates calls to units each shift to obtain locations of patients being monitored and behaviors for which patients are being monitored
  • Notifies nurse, Risk department, and or manager as appropriate when safety, quality concerns are present
  • Documents calls to units, emergency codes paged overhead and seclusion/restraints events.
  • Use of limited physical crisis intervention techniques.
  • Monitor patients according to patient monitoring standards, policies and procedures, including completion of behavioral rounds sheets/flowsheets.
  • Attends in-service, education and online modules to update skills and knowledge
  • Maintains open communication with co-workers.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
