About The Position

Responsible for providing, coordinating and monitoring a variety of Mental Health Services to a designated caseload of adult and geriatric Mental Health consumers who are incarcerated or at risk of incarceration in the local jails. Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, Criminal Justice/Mental Health Liaison is responsible for providing, coordinating and monitoring services for their respective caseloads, eight hours per day, five days per week. The employee is subject to on-call as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have skills and proficiencies in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the Mental Health Profession.
  • Individuals must have a bachelor’s degree in Social work, Psychology or another related field.
  • Individual must be flexible and innovative with the initiative to function with limited supervision.
  • Individuals must be mentally alert, emotionally mature, reliable and self-motivated.
  • Working knowledge of community resources is important in the effective delivery of services to the consumer.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Previous experience in Mental Health preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops relationships with the local criminal justice system, community services, and mental health providers.
  • Develops community resources and coordinates exiting resources for adults with mental illness who are incarcerated in local jails.
  • Identifies, screens, and assesses persons with mental illness and facilitates continuity of care while being held in jail.
  • Develops and coordinates plans for release from jail for adults with a serious mental illness that includes referral and linkage back into the community.
  • Conducts follow-up activities with the persons when released from jail into community programs and services to ensure successful integration into the community from incarceration.
  • Fosters a better understanding of the needs and rights of persons with mental illness and the needs and requirements of the criminal justice system through education and training activities.
  • Identifies barriers that prevent the success of the project and develops plans on how the barriers can be reduced.
  • Advocates for individuals with mental illness who are incarcerated or at risk of incarceration.
  • Submits quarterly reports on the activities of the Project.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
