This role involves supporting the hospital in a manner that demonstrates a strong and positive commitment to quality patient care. The Mental Health Counselor will serve as a preceptor for new employees and educate staff as needed, utilizing supervision to enhance professional improvement and development. Attendance at clinical meetings impacting patient care is expected, along with maintaining a solid understanding of and adherence to hospital policies and protocols. Participation in quality improvement studies for positive patient care outcomes and maintaining an understanding of regulatory agency expectations are key responsibilities. The role includes recording and reporting patient status to the Registered Nurse, monitoring the patient milieu for safety, and promoting a positive therapeutic environment. Responding to patient needs, assisting with personal hygiene and daily living activities, and collaborating with nurses on patient care are essential. The counselor will also assist in the admitting, discharging, and transferring process, ensuring patient safety and managing patient valuables. Participation in treatment team meetings, assisting with care plan development, and reporting shift issues to the Registered Nurse are also part of the role. Maintaining yearly/biyearly requirements for CPR and Aggression Management is mandatory. Other duties as assigned will also be performed.
