About The Position

The Licensed Mental Health Counselor will provide mental health and wellness services to students, supporting their personal, academic, and social development. This role involves direct counseling, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and collaboration with campus stakeholders to foster a supportive and healthy campus environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work, required
  • Current and valid Florida license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), required
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, Equal Access/Equal Opportunity.

  • Proficient in the use of technology.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish trust with a diverse student population.
  • Strong knowledge of mental health theories, principles, and practices, including crisis intervention and risk assessment.

  • Ability to work with students with unique abilities and learning differences.
  • Current and valid Florida license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and/or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), required

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling services to students with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to academic and career concerns.
  • Work closely with students and create a safe space for students to share mental health and emotional concerns and issues.
  • Identify and address mental health, emotional, and behavioral student needs.
  • Support student safety by assisting in the intervention of mental health crises.
  • Conduct intake interviews, clinical assessments, and case recording.
  • Build rapport and establish trust with a diverse student population.
  • Develop treatment plans with as much student involvement as possible, ensuring they are based upon recovery/resiliency-based treatment recommendations.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to students in distress.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and secure client records in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings as necessary to coordinate care for students.
  • Refer students to on-campus and community resources as needed and follow up on referrals.
  • Develop and manage relationships with external service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HIPAA and FERPA regulations regarding the storage of all student treatment records and services provided.
  • Work successfully both independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage the assessment and evaluation of mental health services provided, and work with College leadership to implement recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain requirements for licensure as required in Florida.
  • Assist in College recruitment and retention efforts, as appropriate.
  • Attend Graduation/Commencement ceremonies.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
