About The Position

Rockhurst University is seeking a temporary part-time Mental Health Counselor for the Fall 2026 semester to work in the Counseling Center. The Counseling Center is a wellness-affirming and collaborative setting within the Student Development Department. The University, founded by the Jesuits in 1910, is a comprehensive institution with approximately 3000 students, offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. Requirements

  • Fully licensed in Missouri in a mental health related field (Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy).
  • License-eligible candidates are welcome to inquire.
  • Completed license-eligible degree (master’s or higher) from an accredited program in a mental health related field (Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy).
  • Relevant experience applicable to providing mental health counseling to college students.
  • Proficiency in and commitment to multicultural competence.
  • Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations, including underrepresented and/or underserved populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Full licensure in Kansas in a mental health related field (Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy) for telehealth services.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a University Counseling Center setting.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools (DSM-5-TR).
  • Ability to work effectively with traditional and non-traditional college students.
  • Experience with mental health prevention and outreach activities.
  • Experience working with students affected by sexual assault, disordered eating, and body image concerns.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Titanium).

Responsibilities

  • Provide multiculturally competent clinical services within a short-term therapy framework to students.
  • Conduct individual counseling/psychotherapy.
  • Perform crisis intervention.
  • Maintain clinical documentation.
  • Initiate appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and group case consultation.
  • Provide occasional consultation with faculty or staff regarding students of concern.
  • As available, provide workshops and presentations to classrooms, residence halls, and student organizations.
