About The Position

The Latinx Community Liaison at Cornell Health's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) serves as a member of a multidisciplinary service team with primary responsibility for the mental health of Cornell University's undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. All Community Liaison positions are fully in-person and designed to create a bridge between mental health services in CAPS and communities of students who traditionally have faced barriers in connecting to mental health support. The responsibilities of these positions include providing Let's Talk services, leading identity-focused support/treatment groups, providing outreach to student groups and campus offices/mentors closely connected to these students, as well as engaging in short-term individual counseling and crisis management with students from all backgrounds. While these will not be the only clinicians serving students of these identities, these counselors will serve as a conduit to CAPS to help keep other clinicians informed about the needs of the community and assisting CAPS leadership in how to respond to the unique needs of these students. They may also serve as a resource for mental health education and prevention strategies across campus, and may consult with faculty, staff, and parents regarding student mental health issues.

Requirements

Master of social work degree with “C” or “R” designation (LCSW or LCSW-R) or Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology (PhD or PsyD) and 3 - 5 years of work-related experience.
Licensed in New York State.
Strong interest in entrenching clinical services within the culture of academics and the campus community.
Professional autonomy and maturity allowing for independent delivery of services in a satellite location.
Experience with individuals presenting with common clinical issues prevalent in college mental health including but not limited to suicidality, disordered eating, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, and trauma.
Effective interpersonal, written, verbal, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
Understanding of, and compliance with, the ethical and legal issues involved in the provision of clinical services.
Ability to advocate for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds.
Ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy, and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
Ability to manage and carefully maintain confidential and private information; use confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.
