About The Position

UPMC is hiring a part-time Mental Health Counselor II to support Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough in McKeesport, PA. This role is ideal for individuals with a new bachelor's degree interested in working with individuals with chronic mental illness, even with little or no prior experience in the behavioral health field. The hire will gain exposure to medications, various treatment modalities for recovery and quality of life, and medical and psychiatric issues related to long-term psychotropic medication and the aging process. The incumbent will support the Fifth Ave Residential Home. The shift for this role is Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The ideal candidate will be supportive of and a resource for residents. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $1,750!

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
Driver's License

Nice To Haves

Experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations preferred.
Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with medical appointments, emergency care, financial assistance, budgeting, and daily living skills.
Provide hands-on help and public transportation education.
Write detailed shift notes, give verbal reports, complete medication documentation, and report issues.
Conduct and document resident health measurements.
Build effective relationships, meet weekly with consumers to discuss progress, help set and achieve goals, provide life guidance, use crisis intervention techniques, and lead social/educational groups.
Orient residents to the community, educate on emergency procedures, teach social skills, communicate with the treatment team, attend meetings, liaise with service providers, and perform safety checks.
