About The Position

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Mental Health Counsellor provides a range of mental health services to community members including individuals, families and groups within a First Nations cultural and socioeconomic setting. The role involves identifying, assessing and monitoring clients’ needs in conjunction with parents/caregivers and/or other service providers. It also includes interviewing clients and their parent(s)/caregiver(s) and other relevant professionals to gather case history, identifying areas of concern for counselling, and assisting therapists in treatment monitoring and evaluation. The counsellor will complete clinical assessments using a bio/psycho/social/spiritual approach, develop treatment plans in collaboration with the client, and implement counselling plans and programs using appropriate techniques for individual and group interventions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Clinical Psychology
  • Registered with BCCSW, ICBOC, ACCT or CPCA
  • Two years of related experience with responsibility for providing a range of community-based mental health services.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, assesses and monitors clients’ needs in conjunction with parents/caregivers and/or other service providers (e.g., CYMH Therapist, CMH Therapist, MCFD, school, etc.).
  • Interviews clients and their parent(s)/caregiver(s) and other relevant/involved professionals to gather case history information.
  • Identifies area of concern to be addressed by counselling.
  • Assists therapists in carrying out, monitoring, and evaluating treatment relative to counselling support and education.
  • Completes clinical assessments using a bio/psycho/social/spiritual approach and develops treatment plans in collaboration with the client.
  • Develops and implements counselling plans and programs necessary to meet client goals and objectives.
  • Provides individual and group counselling interventions using counselling techniques depending on client or family need.
