About The Position

The Mental Health Consultant focuses on the early identification and diagnosis of mental health problems, basic mental health care, and mental health promotion, prevention, and education. The goal is to develop staff knowledge and help students overcome barriers to employability.

Requirements

  • Must be a Clinical/Counseling Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker with an active, unrestricted license to practice as an independent practitioner in state where center is located.
  • Must have unrestricted license for 1 year.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in diagnostic assessment and therapy services with youth and young adults preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advises the Center Director and health and wellness staff on all mental health matters and overall Center program and organizational consultation.
  • Provides consultation on the development of a system to promote the coordination and integration of the mental health and wellness program with other Center programs and activities.
  • Advises and assists wellness course instructors regarding mental health and wellness services.
  • Consults with Center health and wellness staff, counselors, residential life staff, instructors and other appropriate staff concerning the ongoing mental health concerns of students.
  • Assists with program development for the purpose of meeting the life crises of students in constructive ways.
  • Facilitates staff development on using mental health principles and techniques, including coping with problems of alcohol and drug use, sexuality, aggressive behavior and poor communications.
  • Advises the Center Director on the advisability of students' separations for mental health reasons, and the cost of mental health services, including inpatient.
  • Ensures the maintenance, confidentiality, and safeguarding of all necessary mental health records.
  • Involved in the issuance and maintenance of signed and dated health care guidelines regarding mental health matters.
  • Provides diagnostic and evaluative services to students as necessary.
  • Provides limited forms of psychiatric treatment including crisis intervention, brief psychotherapy, intermittent supportive psychotherapy, psychotropic drug management and group psychotherapy, as permitted by licensure or accreditation.
  • Provides appropriate referrals for students who must be separated for mental health reasons.
  • Consults with the TEAP staff on the development of a system to promote the coordination and integration of the mental health and wellness program with the TEAP and related center wide programs.
  • Provides clinical assistance to students and the TEAP Specialist, especially with students who may have co-morbid psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.
  • Reviews program applicant folders and assist with the reasonable accommodation process.
  • Adheres to the policies, procedures, program instructions and guidelines established by Job Corps.
  • Enforces appropriate student workplace behavior when students are in the Wellness Services area.
  • Collects data and prepares reports as required by the Center Director and/or the Department of Labor.
  • Cooperates with corporate and Regional Office Center assessments.
  • Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provides quality services for students and ensures that quality is maintained and student needs are met.
  • Exchanges ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner and contributes meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge.
  • Effectively articulates thoughts and ideas. Identifies problems, analyzes causes and evaluates appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions.
  • Works in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accepts direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
