About The Position

This position supports the Social Development and Health and Wellness teams and is a salaried, exempt role. At Job Corps, this role is about more than counseling. You will play a direct role in supporting students through emotional, behavioral, and life challenges while helping them stay on track toward their goals. Make more than a living. Make a difference. The Mental Health Consultant provides clinical support and guidance to students ages 16 to 24. This role focuses on assessment, intervention, and ongoing support to address mental health needs that may impact student success. You will work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure students receive appropriate care, support, and referrals when needed.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field required
  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure required
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with a diverse student population
  • Strong understanding of developmental, social, and cultural factors impacting young adults
  • Ability to manage a caseload and maintain accurate documentation
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing counseling or mental health services to adolescents or young adults preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual counseling to assess student needs, offer support, and develop appropriate treatment or support plans
  • Conducts mental health assessments and screenings to identify concerns and determine appropriate interventions
  • Responds to crisis situations, providing immediate support and ensuring student safety
  • Facilitates group sessions focused on topics such as stress management, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships
  • Provides psychoeducation to students to support mental health awareness and personal development
  • Collaborates with center staff and external providers to coordinate care and ensure continuity of support
  • Makes referrals to community resources and specialized services when appropriate
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in accordance with confidentiality and regulatory standards
  • Supports a safe and structured environment by addressing behavioral and emotional concerns as they arise
  • Participates in case management and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Stays current on best practices, treatment approaches, and mental health trends
  • Participates in outreach and education efforts to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma
  • Performs other duties as assigned
