About The Position

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III to join their Mental Health Services department. This role is responsible for providing individual, couple, and group counseling, documenting client progress, and utilizing a short-term treatment model. The clinician will also handle on-duty walk-ins, crisis calls, and general information calls. Additionally, this position involves providing clinical supervision to unlicensed staff and interns. The Center's mission is to build a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society, and this department is dedicated to helping LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives by keeping their minds and bodies well. Services are free or low cost, and the Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center specializing in primary care for the LGBTQ community.

Requirements

Master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, or professional clinical counseling.
Licensed and registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC.
Licensed in the applicable field of practice for a minimum of 2 years.
Minimum 4 years post graduate counseling experience (e.g., residential care, social services, child welfare services, general counseling, chemical dependency treatment, juvenile justice, youth services).
Ability to work as a team member dedicated to generating resources/services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender communities.
Proven ability to work under direct supervision.
Ability to relate in a non-judgmental and respectful manner to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, or people experiencing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills.
Computer skills and knowledge including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

Responsibilities

Conduct individual, couple and group counseling services for clients and document progress immediately following the session.
Utilize a short-term model in treatment planning, seeking supervisor concurrence for extensions beyond the protocol.
Serve on-duty for designated hours to handle walk-ins (crisis or non-crisis), general information, and crisis telephone calls.
Conduct intakes and prepare required documentation.
Participate in multi-disciplinary Clinical Case Conferences, presenting assigned cases.
Make appropriate referrals to internal and external services (e.g., psychiatric evaluation) and follow up to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care.
Participate in or lead Quality Improvement processes within the clinic.
Meet Performance Metrics such as weekly/monthly visit targets.
Adhere to the Utilization Management protocol for timely and appropriate client service.
Complete all documentation in a timely, legible, and thorough manner, submitting client records at the end of each business day, and notifying supervisor and administrative staff of schedule changes.
Participate in clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision weekly.
Attend mandatory monthly in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
Assist in coordinating the work of paraprofessional volunteers and Mental Health Clinicians I and II.
Participate in program planning, evaluation, dissemination activities, and training with supervisor and/or MHS Management Team.
Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
