About The Position
This position serves as the Department Head for the Sex Offender Residential Treatment (SORT) Program, providing clinical and administrative supervision to assigned staff. The role involves delivering evidence-based, state-of-the-art sex offender programming to adult sex offenders, including treatment, assessment, and reentry/release planning services. The clinician will make recommendations to the Sex Offender Program Director regarding program changes that are research-based and have demonstrated effectiveness. This role also oversees and directs the development, implementation, and monitoring of SORT Program mental health/sex offender treatment services, policies, and programs, ensuring compliance with Department of Corrections (DOC), DBHDS, and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. Additionally, the position provides training to clinical and non-clinical staff and delivers mental health services to SORT Program participants, including crisis intervention, screening, psychological assessment and evaluation, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and release planning, all under the supervision of the Sex Offender Program Director.
Requirements
- Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or equivalent degree in related human services field from an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with advanced coursework in mental health supporting the ability to fulfill the required tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia
- Training and experience in the treatment of mental disorders
- Demonstrated ability to develop intervention and treatment plans and provide individual and group counseling or therapy
- Considerable knowledge of psychopathology, diagnostic nomenclature, psychological theory and ethical practices
- Demonstrated skill in psychological assessment including diagnostic interviewing and report writing
- Demonstrated ability to provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

- Experience in correctional, forensic, mental health or other institutional setting
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical and administrative supervision to mental health staff
