About The Position

This position is located at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia. The role involves providing assessment, treatment, and management of adult sex offenders housed in the Department of Corrections with the goal of reducing future victims upon release to the community. The clinician will deliver evidence-based, state-of-the-art sex offender programming, including treatment, assessment, and re-entry/release planning services. Recommendations will be made to the Sex Offender Residential Treatment (SORT) Program Director regarding program changes that are research-based and have demonstrated effectiveness. The position also ensures that documentation and records are maintained according to DOC and ACA standards.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of psychological theory and practices on various mental disorders, sexual disorders, and contemporary assessment and treatment approaches.
  • Knowledge of salient areas related to effective sex offender treatment modalities.
  • Ability to develop appropriate treatment plans and group and individual counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the purpose, strengths, and limitation of various psychological and sex offender specific assessment instruments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to discuss and explain psychological/diagnostic impressions and issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or equivalent degree in related human services field from an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with advanced coursework in mental health supporting the ability to fulfill the required tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia.
  • Advanced knowledge, skills, and training in Psychology (clinical or counseling), Social Work, or equivalent experience in related human services field.
  • Ability to fulfill professional tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia.
  • Eligible to complete certification as a Sex Offender Treatment Provider by the Virginia Board of Psychology, which must be completed within one year of accepting the position.
  • Experience working clinically with sexual offenders, performing sex offender assessment and interpretation, psychological testing, evaluation, and counseling.
