This position is for a Mental Health Associate on an inpatient behavioral health unit, specifically the Co-Occurring Disorders Unit (CDU). Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • American Heart Association certification for health care provider CPR required upon hire or during orientation and every two years thereafter.
  • Avade 2 (restraint) training completion required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for respectful, culturally and age-appropriate communication.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving abilities for routine situations.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
  • Two year’s experience in a health-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Mental Health Team and interacts with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other colleagues.
  • Communicates observations and changes in patient condition to licensed nurses in a timely manner.
  • Records behavioral data on appropriate data sheets and the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains patient safety through safety checks, environmental rounds, and utilizing fall prevention strategies.
  • Utilizes de-escalation and calming techniques and adheres to Restraint Policy standards.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Leads or co-leads group activities such as goal setting, dual diagnosis groups, and activity groups, and supervises recreational activities.
  • Handles routine situations and seeks assistance from identified resources when needed.
  • Assists in medical emergencies as directed by the licensed nurse.
  • Utilizes proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
