About The Position

The Mental Health Associate I provides direct patient care to patients with mental health disorders. The Mental Health Associate I performs treatment planning and implementation while facilitating groups within assigned treatment programs. The Mental Health Associate I ensures the safety and well-being of these patients by maintaining a safe environment and documents according to department/organization procedures.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Behavioral Health related field, no previous experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a non-Behavioral Health related field, a minimum of one year of behavioral health experience
  • Maintain information as highly confidential
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision
  • A valid driver’s license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an off-site location. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology
  • Skills in teaching or assisting with activities of daily living
  • Prior experience with therapeutic limit-setting and milieu management

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates didactic, educational and unit/program community groups within the assigned treatment programs.
  • Encourages and facilitates patients’ participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Supervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment.
  • Ensures patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision.
  • Conducts unit rounds and completes precautions records in real time.
  • Accurately labels precautions records.
  • Orients new patients to unit, program and milieu by establishing a rapport with patients and families and making necessary introductions.
  • Provides appropriate hand off information when accepting or receiving borders from other units.
  • Participates in treatment planning by working with interdisciplinary team to identify patients’ problems, needs and strengths.
  • Suggests modifications to treatment plan based on observation of patient behavior.
  • Provides input into discharge planning.
  • Completes patient, program, and department documentation.
  • Performs various clerical and administrative assignments to support department operations.
  • Monitors and reports patients’ progress.
  • Communicates information to charge person on assigned shift and family members.
