About The Position

The Mender is ultimately responsible for assisting the tufting machine operator with any and all tasks that require more than one person to complete. This role involves checking carpet for defects, repairing them, and ensuring accuracy in measurements and paperwork. The Mender plays a crucial part in maintaining the quality of the tufted carpet rolls.

  • Ability to push or pull light materials, carts, or pallets
  • Ability to reach above shoulder level or below waist level as required
  • Ability to visually inspect materials, labels, and equipment, including close vision and color differentiation
  • Ability to hear alarms, machine sounds, and verbal instructions in a production environment

Responsibilities

  • Check the carpet for any defects and repair those defects.
  • Notify the machine operator of all defects.
  • Ensure all defects not fixed are brought to the attention of the Tufting Floor Supervisor.
  • Measure the length of each roll that is produced accurately.
  • Ensure the proper roll number is placed on the roll ticket and paperwork.
  • Know what the roll sizes are from the work order and that the right yarn colors are being tufted.
  • Use the hand tape measure set up on the machine, and always measure roll size accurately.
  • Make sure the right yarn is being tufted.
  • Look and check for pull downs, crossovers, and empty needles and LOOPS!
  • Mend all breakouts and clip all mends.
  • Dump rolls on the floor and tie off for the lift driver.
  • Assist the operator and Creeler at all times when the machine is not running.
  • Write up tickets for every roll tufted, ensuring information is accurate and legible and matches the work order paperwork.
  • Clip mends, ensure roll size accuracy, paperwork accuracy, check for yarn crossovers, dark line from mend, missing thatch, missing stalk yarn, streaks throughout the width of roll, streaks from texture, Dark line/band, Light line/band, low line, shag line.
