About The Position

Under the supervision of the Head Men’s Basketball Coach or designee, the Student Team Manager will assist with all managerial aspects of the program. This includes clerical work such as data input and filing paperwork, preparation of practice/game facilities and equipment, preparation of practice/game uniforms and personnel equipment, clock management, stat keeping, filming during practices, and assistance with team functions. The role requires effective organizational skills, time management, and a positive, professional working attitude. The manager will maintain a collaborative working relationship with coaching staff, team members, support staff, administrators, and others associated with the UH Men’s Basketball program. Responsibilities also include setting up and cleaning up facilities and equipment, managing scoreboard, game clock, and shot clock during practice, recording statistics, completing clerical office work, assisting with scouting reports, administrative duties related to recruiting and camps, filming practices and games, managing the team bench during games, attending all team practices and home games, and traveling to away games as assigned. The manager must also attend basketball-related events and promotional activities, comply with team guidelines, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to all NCAA and University of Hawaii rules and regulations, reporting any potential violations.

Requirements

  • Accepted and enrolled as a full-time student as an undergraduate (12 credits at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM) or graduate student (8 credits at UHM) in a degree program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of basketball as played at the intercollegiate level.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) and Mac operating systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.
  • Ability to be punctual and manage time wisely.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all managerial aspects of the program including clerical work such as inputting of data and filing paperwork.
  • Prepare practice/game facilities and equipment.
  • Prepare practice/game uniforms and personnel equipment.
  • Manage clock operations (scoreboard, game clock, shot clock) during practice.
  • Keep statistics during practice.
  • Film practices, individual workouts, and games.
  • Assist with team functions.
  • Set up and clean up practice/game facilities and equipment for the UH Men’s Basketball team.
  • Set up facilities and equipment for visiting teams’ practices and shoot-arounds.
  • Distribute, collect, maintain, and launder all practice/game uniforms and player equipment.
  • Ensure reasonable cleanliness of Stan Sheriff Center locker room, coaches’ lounge, and program conference room.
  • Participate in limited on-court activities during practice involving student-athletes (e.g., rebounding and assisting with drills), without providing instruction or participating in countable athletically related activities beyond permitted exceptions.
  • Record statistics as assigned by the coaching staff during practice.
  • Complete clerical office work and record keeping (e.g., inputting data and filing paperwork).
  • Help assistant coaches with the clerical aspect of scouting reports.
  • Assist the Director of Basketball Operations with administrative duties including recruiting mailouts, camp mailouts, and camp operations.
  • Assist the performance analyst with film exchange and coding of practices and games.
  • Manage team bench during games (provide water/towels to players, perform assigned statistical duties).
  • Attend all team practices and home games.
  • Be available prior to, during, and after practices and competitions as assigned.
  • Travel to away games as assigned.
  • Attend all basketball-related events including promotional activities.
  • Comply with UH Men’s Basketball Team guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, files, and records.
  • Know, recognize, and comply with laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii, NCAA, and affiliated Conferences.
  • Immediately advise the Director of Athletics or designee of any reasonable cause to believe violations have occurred or will occur.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Maximum amount a team manager may receive will be equal to an undergraduate resident tuition or 100% of the individual’s tuition cost (whichever is less).
  • Tuition does not include payment for Outreach College extension courses.
  • Monthly stipend for room and board, approximate amount is $1,111 (rate may be prorated based on start date) from September 2026 to May 2027 (9 months).
