About The Position

Penn State Scranton Athletics, a member of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), is accepting applications for a Part-Time Men's Basketball Coach. This position provides leadership and oversight for the men's basketball program at Penn State Scranton. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the men's basketball program, including practice planning, competition coaching, student-athlete development, and recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes. The position primarily operates during the competitive season, with off-season responsibilities related to recruiting and program development. The Head Coach will have the opportunity to work with and supervise a Part-Time Assistant Coach.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Coaching or playing experience at the high school level or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport of basketball, including rules, strategies, and skill development.
  • Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, assistant coaches, administrators, and staff.
  • Knowledge of USCAA, PSUAC, and NCAA compliance rules.
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred)
  • Collegiate coaching experience.
  • Experience in event coordination and personnel management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions.
  • Provide game day coaching and in-game decision-making.
  • Oversee player development, including athletic, academic, and personal growth.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and team-focused culture.
  • Provide vision and leadership aligned with Penn State’s values and athletics mission.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain academically qualified and talented student-athletes.
  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families.
  • Ensure recruiting efforts comply with PSUAC, USCAA, and NCAA Division III rules.
  • Manage all day-to-day program operations under the direction of the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate practice schedules and team activities.
  • Supervise team events and travel as assigned.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Athletics for weekly, seasonal, conference, and national awards.
  • Work collaboratively with athletics staff, administrators, and campus partners.
  • Encourage and support academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Assist with the development of community service and service-learning opportunities.
  • Use service activities to teach life lessons emphasizing respect, hard work, education, and service to others.
  • Ensure strict adherence to PSUAC, USCAA, and NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid.
